The Seu of Manresa will offer an open day at the Historical Museum on Wednesday 18th of May as part of International Museum Day (IMD). The opening hours of the Museum will be from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm. This opening will be carried out in collaboration with the Friends of the Seu Association, who will be at the Museum to inform and guide visitors.
Since 1977, the International Committee of Museums (ICOM) has been proposing these conferences with the aim of vindicating museums as a center for the study, preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage and as key elements in the development of society and in improving the well-being and cohesion of the community.
The motto of this year’s edition is “Museums have the power to transform the world around us” to highlight the potential of museums to bring about positive change in their communities in the areas of sustainability, innovation in digitalization and accessibility and its ability to build community through education.
The network of museums in the capital of Bages will take an active part in the celebration of the International Museums Day with a series of proposals promoted by Manresa City Council and with the collaboration of all the city’s museum facilities: the Manresa Museum , the Museum of Technology of Manresa, the Museum of Geology Valentí Masachs, the Interpretation Center of Carrer del Balç, Espai 1522, the Sanctuary of the Cave and, of course, the Basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu in Manresa.
On the same Wednesday, May 18, the game of museums will be premiered, which from a story proposes to relate 7 pieces of the 7 museum facilities of Manresa from which the cards must be obtained.
Brochures with the history can be found in the different museum facilities of the city, in the Cultural Center of the Casino and in the Tourist Office of Manresa. Images of the pieces can be obtained from the corresponding museum equipment. Until June 30, the full story brochure with the images can be submitted to any of the places listed above and contestants will be eligible for a prize.
